Student Awards

Roger Rottman Memorial:  The Roger Rottmann Memorial Scholarship is the Florida Chapter of the American Fisheries Society's most prestigious award.  In 2008, the award went to Zy Biesinger (Ph.D. level) and Jared Flowers (M.S. level).  For more information (or to apply), see AFS page.

Graduate Student of the Year Award:  Each year, FAS honors one or two outstanding students for this award. In 2008, the Ph.D. level award went to Mathew Catalano (Advisor, Mike Allen) and the M.S. level award to Kevin Thompson (Advisor, Jeff Hill.

Paul Anderson was selected as the Sea Grant Association Award Winner by Sea Grant Association and the United States Aquaculture Society (a Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society). His presentation titled "Mixed Metazoan and Bacterial Infection of the Gas Bladder of the Lined Seahorse Hippocampus erectus: A Case Report” was stated to be well presented and demonstrated high scientific merit. Paul received both a plaque and a check! Congratulations, Paul!  (picture with Denise Petty, at right)

Heather Hamlin and Tina Crosby won first and second place oral presentation awards at the World Aquaculture Conference in San Antonio, TX.  Faculty advisors are Ruth Francis-Floyd and Denise Petty. Picture at right shows Heather receiving her award.
