Mission Statement
The mission of the Program in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (FAS) has two major components (1) to achieve greater understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological features of aquatic systems through research, education, and public outreach, and (2) to foster the informed management and husbandry of aquatic resources. The Department reaffirms the basic philosophy of America's land-grant universities that asserts that education should be open to all people and that education should be practical as well as classical. The Department is therefore committed to a three-fold mission of teaching, research, and public service that will provide Floridians with the knowledge needed for the future management of Florida's diverse aquatic resources. |
