Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Nikki Dix
Nikki grew up in Longwood, FL about 2 hours south of Gainesville. She graduated from Florida State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Science Education. After that, she worked in the Environmental Services Department at Glatting Jackson in Orlando. In the year and a half she spent there, she gained valuable experience in wetland delineation and monitoring, endangered species surveying, and technical report writing. In the fall of 2004, she joined UF's Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences under Dr. Ed Phlips, earning her M.S. in December 2006.  Her master's research examined temporal water quality variations within a tidal creek associated with the passage of the 2004 hurricanes.  As a National Estuarine Research Reserve Fellow, she is currently starting her Ph.D. research, using benthic surveys and water chemistry to study the effects of nutrient loading on the St. Augustine Inlet.
