 Lauren Marcinkiewicz

Lauren is originally from Miami, Florida however, she spent most of her time growing up in Massachusetts.  She completed her B.S. in marine biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2001.  While in Santa Cruz, Lauren interned with the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation (http://www.pelagic.org/), assisting in tagging studies of blue sharks in Monterey Bay along with leopard sharks and a variety of ray species within Elkhorn Slough.  Upon graduation, Lauren returned to Massachusetts to work as a NMFS observer on commercial ground fishing boats.  Following this, Lauren returned to Miami to work as an observer on commercial, long-line shark fishing boats for the Commercial Shark Fishery Observer Program (C.S.F.O.P.), once part of the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida.

Upon a move to Sarasota, Florida, Lauren began work as a research technician for Dr. William (Bill) E. Pine at Mote Marine Laboratory.  After a year, Lauren started her graduate studies at the University of Florida, in the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, under Dr. Pine (http://floridarivers.ifas.ufl.edu/).  As part of her M.S. thesis work, Lauren conducted an acoustic telemetry study to examine seasonal movement and habitat use patterns of adult common snook, Centropomus undecimalis.  Following the completion of her thesis work, Lauren recently joined the Population Dynamics branch at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), Woods Hole.  She is a contractor, working as a field scientist, for the Cooperative Research Study Fleet program.
