Applying

     Graduate programs in the department leading to the Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are available.  A non-thesis-option for the Master's degree is also available for students interested primarily in non-scientific applications (e.g. public relations, environmental education, etc.). The department conducts research, teaching, and extension programs in three broad areas:

Sustainable Fisheries

Aquaculture

Aquatic Animal Health

Conservation and Management of Natural Aquatic Environments

     If you are interested in applying for graduate work, spend some time on this web site to become familiar with faculty, their research specialties, department programs, and facilities. Become familiar with the University and opportunities beyond FAS. You are encouraged to correspond with faculty whose interests match yours (e-mail addresses are included for each faculty member). If you decide to apply, you should become familiar with the information on applying for admission to graduate school provided by Admissions ( Go to Admissions web page), In addition to forms and information for submitting an application, possible sources of funding, deadlines and procedures for applying for various kinds of funding are included.

Funding

     A variety of funding opportunities (e.g. fellowships, scholarships, and assistantships) exist through the University, College and FAS (For example, Presidential and Minority Student Scholarships, Teaching Assistantships). In addition, national programs, such as the National Science Foundation, and the Fulbright Scholar program, which supports International students, provide funding for graduate work. These programs are highly competitive but good students should consider applying for them. 

When to Apply?

Application deadlines for U.S. students are:    Fall  - June 1,   Spring - October 1,       Summer - March 1.
The deadlines for International students are:  Fall -  April 1,    Spring - September 1,  Summer - January 2.
