FAS students can enhance their studies by accessing these other related programs, administered through the University of Florida:

Biotechnology Center (ICBR) provides assistance to faculty and students by identifying issues of interest and coordinating research. 

Department of Botany faculty work closely with FAS faculty and students on a number of collaborative projects. 

Department of Environmental Engineering faculty and students work together on research projects and teaching classes, particularly in the limnology area. 

Department of Statistics interacts with all areas of IFAS research and extension. Faculty from the Statistics department often provide consultation to FAS students and faculty, as well as serve on FAS graduate committees. 

Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation is a department within IFAS whose students and faculty interact regularly with those in the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.

Department of Zoology faculty share joint appointments with the FAS department. In addition, faculty from the two departments often work cooperatively on teaching and research projects. Their Seahorse Key Marine Laboratory is also available to FAS students and faculty for research and education purposes. 

Whitney Laboratory, in St. Augustine, Florida, is a research institute of the University of Florida. The Whitney faculty offer expertise in marine biomedical research and biotechnology, chemosensory systems, biochemistry of vision, neuropeptide research, molecular genetics, comparative biochemistry and toxicology, etc. Facilities include well-equipped laboratories, offices, aquarium rooms darkroom and graphic areas, a library, and a conference room that can accommodate up to 200 people. In addition there are large outdoor aquariums and a holding pond.

Florida Integrated Science Center of the US Geological Survey is within walking distance of FAS. Several courtesy faculty members of the Department are employed by the BRD. In addition, the BRD has been known to fund FAS graduate students from time to time. 

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) research biologists collaborate with FAS Departmental fisheries and limnology scientists on a variety of projects. The Department provides office and laboratory space for several FWC biologists. These individuals act as wildlife management liaisons by maintaining a communications link between FWC state offices and FAS researchers. 

Florida Museum of Natural History maintains scientific collections that are often useful to FAS researchers. Faculty members and students utilize the expertise available at the museum for identification of specimens, as well as working in cooperation on projects, particularly paleolimnology and paleoecology. 

Florida Sea Grant program offices are located on the main UF campus. Sea Grant promotes fisheries educational programs concerned with marine resources and products. Florida Sea Grant funding has supported marine fisheries research at the University of Florida even before FAS was a Department. 

Freshwater Invertebrate Unit of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is resident at the FAS Gainesville facility. This renowned unit provides taxonomic and ecological expertise to faculty, staff, students, and the general public. The primary focus of the unit is to evaluate trophic status and food web viability in problem lakes and streams throughout Florida. Invertebrate community structure is the primary tool used for these evaluations and the staff with the unit are a valuable addition to the community here at FAS. 

National Marine Fisheries Service, a federal agency within the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, is responsible for fisheries research, development and enforcement in federal waters. FAS cooperates most closely with the Panama City Laboratory of the NMFS Southeastern Fisheries Science Center. The Panama City Laboratory concentrates research on coastal pelagic and reef fishes, particularly with respect to reproductive biology, recruitment dynamics, ecology, and stock assessment in support of fisheries management.
